Hearing about this a few hours ago, I had to give my opinion about this announcement. As much as I love Pokémon, I was so disappointed at first in this decision. All I wanted was a Ruby/Sapphire remake yet they have decided to make a 3DS game instead. I had a feeling this would come out one day but man, not now.

Three new Pokémon have been announced: a cute critter named Chespin, the dog-like Fennekin and an amphibian called Froakie.
Game Freak have literally run out of colors and birthstones so they have moved onto chromosomes. I would have thought they would have gone into planets instead. Exclusively for Nintendo 3DS, the games are set for an October 2013 worldwide release date and the action takes place in a detailed 3D world with a new dynamic combat system.
What’s the third edition going to be? Pokémon Z?
The previous generation was good I must admit. The 5th generation really gave me a better impression of where the franchise was headed in and had a good storyline comparison to how bad the 4th generation. was even a friend of mine who hadn’t played Pokémon since Red and Blue said it was enjoyable. The rival N has got to be one of the best rivals since Gary and Sliver. At the moment, I am currently viewing Pokémon B/W 2 and while I do admit it is good so far, there really is no point in me spending £30-£40 on this game especially when GTA5 and DW8 is coming out.
I might purchase this game but I would have thought they would have waited another year before releasing a new generation game. It does make wonder though: what will the protagonists look like? Will the story line be slightly altered like Black/White? Will it be harder to face trainers? Will they finally let us do trainer customisation?

Is anyone excited for Pokémon X and Y? Is anyone else waiting for a Ruby/Sapphire DS remake or am I the only one?

a new game is far better than a remake any day, especially considering the fact that gen 3 was just extremely bland. BUT, you should still keep hope because I’m pretty sure Nintendo will release a remake eventually, I mean look at OOT, it got a remake. Albeit 14 years later, but it’ll still happen.
No, Ruby/Sapphire was really good. If anything 4th generation was the bland one~
I will definitely keep my hope up though!
I disagree with both of you and no, I’m not a ‘Gen-wunner’ but I personally didn’t like Black & White (Haven’t played B&W2) and I’m going to buy this game but I dont expect it to bring me closer to pokemon. I haven’t enjoyed a Pokemon game since Black & White – It was enjoyable to play, but soon after I realised how badly it compared to the previous generations.
I can’t believe you can even say Gen 3 or 4 are bland at all. They both had a compelling story line and fantastic Pokemon, not to mention Gen 4′s Multiplayer capabilities.
I seriously can’t rank any of the Generations as my favourite or second favourite because I have unique memories about parts of each Generation, however I will say that I didn’t experience that with B&W, I can’t even remember the names of towns (Something I don’t ever forget)
I’m devastated to see sprites go in the trash and even more so to see new camera angles in place of the traditional ariel view.
I really hope this game proves me wrong.
Actually, even though it’s rumored that Pokemon X and Pokemon Y may have something to do with chromosomes, it’s being said that the X and Y are your usual axis on a graph, with an inevitable Z to represent the full 3D plane structure. Of course, X and Y could have a double meaning, as the Japanese logo features a small rainbow DNA strand above the Pokemon’s “e.”
Also, though a Ruby and Sapphire remake would be quite welcome, an entirely new generation is probably best to help ease Pokemon into the 3DS era, as the only Pokemon games made for the 3DS include a Pokedex app and Rumble Blast; all other core Pokemon games have been on the DS up until now. Of course, the upcoming Pokemon Mystery Dungeon set to release in March here in the US will beat X and Y to the punch, as it does have 3D Pokemon designs and such, but in terms of the core series, the best route is to go 6th gen, not remake.
This, of course, doesn’t mean that Ruby and Sapphire won’t be remade. I believe that Ruby and Sapphire will be remade to be in the style of X and Y after the game’s release (I’d imagine 2014 or 2015), so it’ll be a nice distraction in between the releases of X/Y and the inevitable Z (or X^2 and Y^2).
I don’t like that idea though. I would much rather prefer Ruby & Sapphire to be remade in the style of Heart Gold & Soul Silver. I dont know. I might change my mind after playing X & Y. However from the looks of it, I’ll enjoy Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 3 much more than X & Y.
We dont even have a release date for PMD3 in UK
Wow, awesome job on adding those gifs! They really create a lot of spunk and make the article pop!
I’m not enough of a Pokemon fan to really comment, but I do find the idea of moving to a full 3D world for the first time intriguing. Given how long tradition has stuck with the Pokemon franchise.
I think a remake of Ruby and Sapphire would be welcome, so hopefully they will do that soon. I also really like the names they choose, Pokemon X and Y is really interesting and futuristic sounding. Heh.
I’m really looking forward to X & Y though I thought it was kinda sudden after B/W2 too.
In my point of view the grafics and the whole attitude the shots showed till now are amazing. I really appreciate that the possibilities to move along seem to be extended (see the roller blades and vines swinging).
I’d love a remake of Saphire and Ruby and actually thought they’d take this in consideration first since I read about a bunch of short chats with some of the Pokémon creators, when fans asked them to do a remake and they didn’t seem averse…
