10 years of writing

writing

2012 marks the time when I began to take an interest in writing. Writing takes a lot of patience and creativity in order to appeal to a big audience. But it’s something I’ve wanted to do.

Childhood Influences:

I started to love reading and writing when I was 9 because of my older sister. She had always been an example for me and I slowly became interested too. From there as a child, I started reading more books of my favourite authors at the time Meg Cabot and Jacqueline Wilson and I wanted to write more books similar to them. As a child, a lot of my writing influences came from those two authors along with Peter Corey, Christopher Paolini, Sarah Dessen, Roald Dahl and E.B. White.

The idea of putting your imagination to paper is something I have always liked. I began to read newspapers more and gain an interest in anything to do with journalism: games, magazine, world news etc.

Sims 2 and Fanfiction:

Believe it or not but by 2005, while I loved to play Sims 2 at the time, I discovered what was called the Sims 2 Exchange. People were able to create stories through the photo albums in the games by editing the pictures and including text, making clothes and furniture through the Sims Body Shop. I found it very interesting and tried to give it a go but because the most experienced writers were also very good at Photoshop, I gave up. Some of the forums I used to be quite active on were mostly Writers Hangout, Scribblers Abode (seems to be the most active even today) and Inscriber’s Shack where I was a regular roleplayer. Being a roleplayer for that time was just fun to be able to play as a fictional character.

But then I found a site that only focused upon writing which I found so much better and more of my style: Fanfiction.net. The thing is that I have wrote fanfiction and shipped characters before I even knew the words. From 2007, I spent a good year writing monthly for one of my best stories on Beyblade and started a few other fanfics. Upon the next writing chapter of my life, I haven’t been updating as often as I used. But I do plan to go back and finish them all. I must. I later discovered Fictionpress which I have not used until now but I may consider writing stories (AMBW preferrably) on there soon.

Blogging and the present

The reason why I started a blog was after looking at several blogs and how they wrote. ShenYuePop, Random J and K Bites were examples of what I wanted to do believe it or not. Blogging editiorals and my thoughts on the entertainment industry weren’t the first things I tried blogging about. First I wanted to be a source for Asian music in my own way but that failed and shortly after I began reviewing singles or albums. The way I blog now started after that…

It’s mostly on the J-Pop and K-Pop industry but now I have expanded to video games, fanfiction and interracial topics.

These days, I still continue to blog and write fanfiction especially on Asianfanfics too. I can’t go anywhere without a pen and paper in case an idea comes up. Right now, I am doing a degree in Japanese & Journalism and I also have articles posted in the London Korean Times. But I still believe that even though I have grown in my writing, it still needs to be improved. In my thoughts towards the industry in the past, I still feel I was right about a few things in K-Pop but I also feel some of what I wrote in the past is wrong and childish. That’s why I am hoping to improve now.

Hope you guys liked reading this post!

  2. Aww. I liked this post, it’s neat seeing how people get into writing, and I think it’s cool that you’re doing journalism. It shows sometimes. x) Keep writing!

  3. This article interests me cause I have a similar sort of view of writing. Only I’ve been dead into reading since I was like 4 or 5 and developed a proper passion for writing when I was about 7 or 8. I wanted to be an author ever since my primary teacher suggested that I should try and be one, and it’s an ambition that has stuck with me since. Writing is the best outlet for me, it’s the easiest way for me to express myself. Journalism did interest me but the uni courses required too many grades I was too lazy to get the grades for, so, I settled on applying for a Graphic Design course. My ambition of becoming an author still stands, though, I just feel that I need a steady career as a safety net. So, yeah, I started my blog for similar reasons. Hopefully, once I get into a proper flow of updating this blog regularly, I’ll be able to write some meaningful stuff and not just rankings of things I like xD
